On February 28, 2026, a U.S. Tomahawk missile struck a girls’ elementary school in Minab, Iran. At least 168 children and 14 teachers were killed. The Pentagon’s preliminary assessment concluded the United States was responsible.
This is the tyrant of this moment. These are the tiers:
Tier 1 — The operators who launched the missiles. The commanders who approved the target list.
Tier 2 — Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who said U.S. forces would follow “no stupid rules of engagement.” President Donald Trump, who threatened to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages.”
Tier 3 — The system: a war launched without congressional authorization, using an Authorization for Use of Military Force passed in 2001 for a different enemy in a different conflict. A Senate that voted 53–47 against a war powers resolution. An executive branch that claims the authority to destroy civilian infrastructure of a sovereign nation.
Tier 4 — The deeper structure: American exceptionalism as operating ideology. The belief that U.S. military power is inherently legitimate. The seventy-year pattern of Middle Eastern intervention. The assumption that some civilizations may be threatened with annihilation and the world will do nothing.
